Andy to Drive Revolutionary DeltaWing at 12 hours of Sebring

Andy Meyrick will be one of two drivers to take over the world-famous DeltaWing Racing project for the 2013 season as the team tackles one of the world’s toughest endurance championships, the American Le Mans Series (ALMS).

Starting with the 12 Hours of Sebring in March, the ALMS travels the breadth of America taking in iconic circuits such as Laguna Seca and Long Beach as well as the newest circuit in the championship, the Circuit of the Americas, in Austin, Texas.

The distinctively-shaped DeltaWing is an innovative race car, which was last year made famous when Nissan raced it at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Since then, the car has gained a new 4-cylinder, 1.9-litre Elan engine with 345bhp and is embarking on its first full championship campaign, which starts with the 12 Hours of Sebring, Florida.

“The 12 Hours of Sebring is my favourite race and I am hoping to emulate the success of my 2010 debut when I achieved a third place podium with Dyson Racing”, says Andy, who announced this week that he will also be driving for British team Gulf Racing UK in the 2013 Blancpain Endurance Series in a McLaren 12C GT3.

“I don’t think the adjustment from the cars I am used too will be too big; in fact, I am really excited to race the DeltaWing for the first time. Its weight should make it especially nimble and reactive and, as a driver, that is a key element. I am also excited and extremely motivated to be working with Don Panoz; he is one of the key supporters of sports car racing and I have full belief in the programme and team that he has put together.”

At the opening round of the ALMS, the 12 Hours of Sebring, Andy will be partnered by Frenchman Olivier Pla. The race starts at 10.30am on Saturday, 16March.
