Chester, UK, 8th April 2013 - British sportscar driver Andy Meyrick will be back in the seat of a Gulf Racing McLaren 12C GT3 this weekend (Sunday 14th April) as the team competes in the 2013 Blancpain Endurance Series (BES) season-opener at Monza.
After joining the British racing team for selected rounds of the championship in 2012, the 27-year old from Chester signed a deal earlier this year which sees him contest the entire championship in the Pro-Am class alongside amateur driver and team co-owner Mike Wainwright.
In preparation for the highly competitive season ahead, Andy tested the #9 Gulf-liveried 3.8-litre twin turbo McLaren at Silverstone and Snetterton and then, while Andy was driving the DeltaWing in the opening round of the American Le Mans Series last month, Mike ran the car at an official BES test-session at Paul Ricard in France.
Andy comments: “I’m excited to be heading into the first race of the new BES season and to be there with Gulf Racing, which has ambitious plans for the season, is even better. Testing has gone well and the car has proven it’s not only going to be reliable and competitive but that it’s as easy to drive for an amateur driver like Mike as it is a professional like myself.
“Monza is one of the great historic circuits in the championship and one that I love to drive. We’re both looking forward to getting out onto the track and I’m confident we can have a successful race if everything goes our way on the day.”
The opening round of the 2013 Blancpain Endurance Series at Monza starts on Sunday 14th April with qualifying at 1035h CET and the one hour-long race at 1415h. Follow Andy’s progress on Twitter using @andymeyrick or in the news section of his website: www.andymeyrick.com/news.
