Professional racing driver Andy Meyrick impressed at Silverstone this weekend (1-2 June) as he partnered his Gulf Racing teammate and team co-owner Mike Wainwright in the Pro-Am category at the British round of the Blancpain Endurance Series (BES).
The pair competed in the #9 McLaren 12C GT3, one of nine identical cars entered into the 57-stong field of highly competitive teams and drivers and one of two entered by British racing team Gulf Racing. Meyrick fulfilled his role as Pro driver in the team perfectly, taking the middle stint and climbing 19 places before handing the car back to Wainwright.
There to cheer Andy on as he charged through the pack were guests from McLaren Manchester who were invited by Andy to share the Gulf Racing and BES experience and to showcase the McLaren 12C GT3 to the road car customers.
Andy comments: “Because the McLarens were so quick at the first round of the championship at Monza, we were stung on balance of performance at Silverstone and therefore struggled against some of the other GT3s. It was, however, great to be driving at Silverstone and a pleasure to do so alongside Mike, who put in another solid race despite the challenges that such a large grid of mixed abilities can bring. It even affected me… I got dizzy from overtaking so many cars!”
Andy next races the McLaren 12C GT3 in the third round of the Blancpain Endurance Series at Paul Ricard, France on 29-30 June before he returns to race the DeltaWing at the fourth round of the American Le Mans Series at Lime Rock, Connecticut, USA on 5-6 July.
