Chester, 9 December 2013 - British sportscar racing driver Andy Meyrick will make his debut with Team M-Sport Bentley this weekend (13 December), it takes its first outing with the new, highly-anticipated Bentley Continental GT3 in the Gulf 12 Hours in Abu Dhabi.
Following a successful testing programme, the 28-year old from Chester was signed to Team M-Sport Bentley and will drive the Continental GT3 in the 12-hour endurance event, which marks the manufacturer’s return to sportscar racing following a 10-year break.
“To be signed to Bentley for the Gulf 12 Hours is incredible,” comments Meyrick. “I’ve been working closely with the team during the development phase and I’m excited to be part of the manufacturer’s return to racing. Living and growing up near Bentley HQ means that it’s a brand that means a lot to me and I’m extremely proud to be the newest Bentley Boy.
“I’ve been involved in many development projects and often you go into the first race wondering if the car is up to the job but what Bentley and M-Sport have created with the new Continental GT3 gives us a lot of confidence going to Abu Dhabi. It’s a fast car that has, so far, proven to be very reliable.”
Andy will drive the Continental GT3, which is based on the road-going Bentley Continental GT, alongside Le Mans 2003-winner Guy Smith (GB) and seasoned sports car racing driver Steven Kane (GB).
“It’s an honour to be driving alongside Guy Smith,” comments Meyrick. “Not only is he a good friend of mine, since we raced together at Dyson Racing, but as a Le Mans and American Le Mans Series winner, there is a lot to learn from him. I’ve not raced with Steven before but I’m very much looking forward to this weekend.
“The Gulf 12 Hours will finish off what has been a good season for me where I raced the Gulf Racing McLaren 12C GT3 in Blancpain and the Deltawing in the American Le Mans Series.”
The Gulf 12 Hours takes place on Friday 13 December. Follow Andy’s progress on his website www.andymeyrick.com/news and on Twitter using @andymeyrick
