Taking the wheel in seventh, Andy Meyrick climbed to a fourth-place finish during this weekend’s third round of the Michelin Le Mans Cup at the Red Bull Ring
July 21, 2017, Spielberg, Austria – Andy Meyrick and co-driver Eric De Doncker started Saturday’s two-hour race at the Red Bull Ring in ninth out of a 21-car field following De Doncker’s qualifying session in the morning. Qualifying in the Michelin Le Mans Cup is done by the Am of the Pro-Am driver pairing. De Doncker started the race and climbed to seventh before handing driving duties to Meyrick with an hour to go. Meyrick successfully navigated traffic and made his way to fourth closing the gap on the third-place position with each lap from 35-seconds at pit-out to 27-seconds crossing the chequered flag.
Having secured pole with the McLaren GT4 earlier in the year at the Red Bull Ring, Meyrick was keen to secure another strong performance at the Austrian track. The Motorsport98 team did not disappoint and the car showed consistent improvement all weekend in both performance and speed and proved it in the race with the best result of the season so far.
Next up for Meyrick and Motorsport98 will be The Castellet Round at the historic Paul Ricard circuit on August 26th, 2017 where the team hope to continue moving up the Championship leader board.
Andy Meyrick said:
“I was really pleased with my stint, going from seventh to fourth and closing the gap on third. Eric did a fantastic job and drove really well starting ninth and handing the car over to me in seventh. The Motorsport98 crew pulled off a slick pit stop. This is only the third Michelin Le Mans Cup race the team has competed at and already we are closing in on the podium against teams that have been competing in this a lot longer. I’m very impressed with all the hard work they have put in to get us to this position.”
